Telkomsel and ZTE Use AI for Networks to Achieve More Stable Internet
Telkomsel is collaborating with ZTE to develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based telecommunications networks in Indonesia. This partnership is expected to improve the quality of service directly felt by customers.
The partnership was marked by the signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement (SPA) at the Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
Through this collaboration, the two companies will explore the application of AI-based network technology and digital innovations to deliver more reliable and adaptive services.
One focus of the partnership is the development of an AI-native Radio Access Network (RAN), which enables more intelligent management of mobile networks.
In addition, Telkomsel and ZTE will expand the implementation of Edge User Plane Function (UPF). This technology allows data processing to occur closer to the user’s location.
With this approach, customers could experience lower latency and a more responsive internet experience, especially for real-time services such as streaming, gaming, and other digital applications.
The expansion of the edge network is also aimed at improving broadband service quality in various regions of Indonesia, including areas that have previously faced limitations in digital infrastructure.
Telkomsel’s Director of Planning & Transformation, Wong Soon Nam, stated that this collaboration is part of the company’s efforts to provide a better digital experience for customers.
“Through this collaboration, we aim to integrate intelligent AI-based network capabilities to enhance service reliability, expand more inclusive broadband access, and open new opportunities for customers and industry players throughout Indonesia,” Wong said in a statement received by KompasTekno on Friday (10 April 2026).
According to Liang, improvements in network efficiency and technological innovation are expected to strengthen the digital ecosystem while delivering a better service experience for users.
With the development of these AI-based networks, Telkomsel customers are expected to enjoy more stable connections, lower latency, and increasingly equitable internet access across various regions of Indonesia.
