PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) is optimising the provision of satellite-based connectivity at 17 locations affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The locations include Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka.

EVP Telkom Regional III Rachmad Dwi Hartanto said the move represents an expansion of emergency response measures as part of efforts to handle and restore digital telecommunications services.

“Infrastructure recovery at several points still requires time and is being carried out in stages. We need to ensure that all TelkomGroup resources and capabilities can be deployed effectively to support the process, including through the use of Telkomsat satellite services,” Rachmad said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.

In line with these efforts, Telkomsat is optimising its satellite capabilities to provide reliable communication access in locations still undergoing recovery, particularly where terrestrial network infrastructure is experiencing disruption and limitations.

“We are targeting satellite connectivity support to be available at 17 points in the Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka areas,” said VP Corporate Secretary Telkomsat Fino Arfiantono.

Fino added that the measure is part of Telkomsat’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the public, especially when communication access is needed in emergency conditions.

“In situations like this, what matters most is how the technology and capabilities we have can provide real benefits to the community,” Fino said.

“Telkomsat will continue to work in synergy with TelkomGroup and all stakeholders to support the recovery process, so that communication access in affected areas can be restored and support various needs on the ground,” he added.

The satellite connectivity support complements the ongoing network recovery process. To date, several segments of fibre optic networks, BTS sites, and other infrastructure have been restored and are back in operation.

On the services side, free internet posts at several locations as well as Emergency Packages for Telkomsel customers remain available and can be activated via 88820#.

TelkomGroup continues to deploy technical teams to accelerate connectivity recovery in affected areas, while maintaining work safety as a priority.
