Telkom's discount

The North Jakarta branch office of the state-owned
telecommunications corporation (Telkom) has since April 2001 been
advertising a 60 percent discount off the cost of installing a
new telephone line. Interested in the offer, I registered myself
as a new subscriber but, to my surprise, I was told there were no
lines available.

Meanwhile, many people have also registered to avail of the
offer, and I know of one person who registered for a new phone
line before the offer and already paid the fee, who has been
waiting for more than a year now for a telephone without any
confirmation. And all have been told that no new lines are
available.

What surprises all of us prospective subscribers is that
Telkom has been offering something they do not have, so that
Telkom has been telling a big lie to the public, most of them the
have-nots who like most Jakartans badly need telephone lines.

I am writing to kindly ask Telkom to pay attention to us, and
to improve their service to the public.
