TelkomGroup Provides Free Internet Access at NTT Evacuation Posts
PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is committed to continuing to provide support for communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). One of the measures is opening communication and internet access at a number of evacuation sites.
The internet access is available free of charge and can be used by the public at no cost. The provision of emergency internet access is one of TelkomGroup’s steps to support residents’ communication needs during the response and recovery period.
Telkom Network Director Nanang Hendarno said that in a disaster situation, the need to stay connected becomes increasingly important, both for the public to communicate with family and for officers and parties involved in carrying out handling on the ground. “Therefore, TelkomGroup is providing various connectivity support at strategic points and ensuring that the public continues to have reliable communication access,” said Nanang.
As part of connectivity support on the ground, Telkomsel Disaster Alert Posts have been established at several locations, namely Gelora Samador Maumere, GraPARI Maumere, and the Telkomsel Authorized Partner (TAP) Rajawali Maumere. Meanwhile, posts in Mbay Nagekeo, TAP Borong, and TAP Ruteng, as well as the Telkom Regional Office in Flores and surrounding areas, are in the process of being prepared to support the community’s needs more broadly.
At the Gelora Samador Maumere post, Telkomsel is providing IndiHome services with speeds of 200 Mbps and Mesh WiFi free of charge, which can now be used for various needs at the evacuation site. The access is being used, among others, by the Sikka Resort Police to provide entertainment for children through film screenings at the evacuation post.
In addition to providing free internet at the posts, TelkomGroup is providing communication support through the distribution of SIMPATI starter packs and quota vouchers for residents in need, as well as an Emergency Package for Telkomsel customers of 3GB of data, 1,000 SMS, and 300 minutes of calls for Rp 1 with a validity period of seven days, which can be activated via 88820#. These various services help residents and customers stay connected to communicate with family and obtain the information needed during the disaster response and recovery period.
To provide real-time access to information on handling in the field, the TelkomGroup Disaster Response Hotline at 0800-111-9000 is also available and can be accessed 24 hours a day free of charge. The public can use the hotline to obtain information and updates regarding service conditions and disaster handling.
TelkomGroup will continue to accompany the community during the recovery period by providing support according to needs on the ground, while monitoring infrastructure conditions and accelerating service repairs to ensure digital connectivity can soon return to optimal levels.
