TelkomGroup Optimises Connectivity in Earthquake-Affected Areas of NTT
PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is continuing to expand its emergency response measures following the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). This is part of Telkom’s efforts to handle and restore digital telecommunications services.
As part of TelkomGroup, PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) is also playing a role by targeting the provision of satellite-based connectivity at 17 points in Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka.
EVP Telkom Regional III Rachmad Dwi Hartanto said that infrastructure restoration at several points still requires time and is being carried out in stages.
“We need to ensure that all TelkomGroup resources and capabilities can be deployed effectively to support this process, including through the use of Telkomsat satellite services,” said Rachmad on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
In line with these efforts, Telkomsat is optimising its satellite capabilities to provide reliable communication access in locations still undergoing recovery, particularly where terrestrial network infrastructure is experiencing disruption and limitations.
Meanwhile, VP Corporate Secretary of Telkomsat Fino Arfiantono said the company understands that in disaster situations, connectivity is a critical need, both for the public to remain in communication and obtain information, and for various parties to coordinate handling on the ground.
“We are targeting satellite connectivity support to be present at 17 points in the Maumere, Ruteng, and Larantuka areas,” Fino concluded.
Fino added that this step is part of Telkomsat’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the public, especially when communication access is needed in emergency conditions.
“In situations like this, the most important thing is how the technology and capabilities we have can provide real benefits to the community. Telkomsat will continue to synergise with TelkomGroup and all stakeholders to support the recovery process, so that communication access in affected areas can be restored and support various needs on the ground,” Fino concluded.
For information, the satellite connectivity support complements the ongoing network recovery process. To date, several segments of fibre optic networks, BTS sites, and other infrastructure have been restored and are back online. On the services side, free internet posts at several locations and Emergency Packages for Telkomsel customers are also still available and can be activated via 88820#.
TelkomGroup continues to deploy technical teams to accelerate connectivity restoration in affected areas, while maintaining work safety as a priority. With this additional satellite connectivity, TelkomGroup is making every effort to ensure the public can remain connected during the crisis. Information regarding network recovery progress, service offices, and TelkomGroup customer services can be obtained through the Disaster Response Hotline at 0800-111-9000 and Telkom Indonesia’s official social media.
