Telkom warns of illegal levies

JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta branch of state telecommunications company PT Telkom has admitted some employees have illegally charged between Rp 50,000 (US$6) and Rp 100,000 for installing a telephone line.

The official fee for the installation of a telephone line is Rp 250,000.

Branch deputy head Prawoto urged customers to refuse to pay the levy because it was not the company's policy to charge additional fees.

Prawoto said people who had paid the illegal levy could reclaim their money.

He promised that Telkom employees who charged illegal levies would be punished. (jun)
