Telkom Warns of Data Breach Risks from ChatGPT and Public AI Platforms
PT Telkom Indonesia is developing an internal artificial intelligence-powered chatbot platform as a precautionary measure against the widespread use of public AI applications such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar tools.
Komang Budi Aryasa, Executive General Manager of Digital Products at Telkom Indonesia, stated that prior to establishing an internal platform, many employees tend to use public chatbots due to their ease of access.
“Initially, when the company did not have an internal ChatGPT-like platform, employees tended to use ChatGPT because it is very easy to access,” Komang said during a Telkom Ramadan gathering in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
However, he noted that this convenience carries serious risks for the company. Employees may unknowingly upload internal documents to public AI platforms.
“When we upload documents, they are stored on their servers. Competitors or irresponsible parties could potentially access them, resulting in data breaches,” Komang explained.
To mitigate these risks, Komang believes companies must implement strict top-down measures. Management must issue formal regulations prohibiting the use of public AI for work-related purposes.
“Companies must enforce regulations. If necessary, there should be sanctions for those caught uploading company documents to these open applications,” he said.
He noted that several companies have already blocked access to public AI applications through their intranet systems. If employees require AI assistance, they are directed to use the internal GPT system developed by the company.
“If assistance is needed, use the internal GPT we have built. The results are the same,” Komang said.
