Telkom University Reviews Student Supervision System After Bullying Case

JAKARTA — Telkom University is reviewing student supervision in its halls of residence after a bullying case involving a new student. The university will strengthen the role of senior residents, expand efforts to raise awareness about violence prevention and involve academic advisers to improve supervision and students’ understanding of bullying.

The university’s Vice-Rector for Admissions, Student Affairs and Endowment, Prof. Dr Ratri Wahyuningtyas, said it would build senior residents’ capacity to recognise signs of bullying and violence.

Senior residents are currently stationed in the residential area and on duty 24 hours a day. The university also plans to broaden violence-prevention education by involving academic advisers and teaching staff, rather than relying solely on social media and in-person activities.

“The capacity of senior residents to identify bullying or violence on this campus will also be strengthened,” Ratri said at an online press conference on Sunday (11 October 2026).

Ratri said the incident in the men’s residence had prompted the university to review and improve its bullying-prevention efforts. Telkom University also plans to incorporate anti-violence values into its curriculum.

The university has provided support to the victim, including assistance with physical and mental health. The victim and the students involved have been placed in separate residential areas to ensure safety.

The alleged bullying took place at about 8pm on Friday (9 October 2026) in the men’s residence. The victim and the students involved are first-semester students in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering.

The university has imposed academic administrative sanctions on two students, while two others are still undergoing examination and verification.
