Telkom University Partners with BWI, Invests IDR 11.5 Billion in Sukuk
The Directorate of Endowment Fund Management at Telkom University has partnered with the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) to invest IDR 11.5 billion in Sharia-compliant Sovereign Sukuk (SBSN) through a private placement. The funds originate from the university’s endowment fund for 2026, which has reached a total of IDR 57.5 billion.
Telkom University Rector Prof Suyanto stated that the collaboration with BWI and the sukuk investment were undertaken to strengthen the institution’s financial independence while expanding the sustainability impact of education through safe, transparent, and accountable fund management.
He noted that the investment had been approved by the Endowment Fund Steering Board of the Telkom Education Foundation and adheres to the precautionary principle. Prof Suyanto assessed that this portfolio rebalancing step is projected to significantly increase investment returns.
“In the initial stage, Telkom University has placed IDR 11.5 billion in a Sovereign Sukuk Private Placement instrument through a partnership with the Indonesian Waqf Board,” he said on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
He explained that the SBSN instrument offers a competitive estimated yield ranging from 6.5 to 6.9 percent per annum. With this investment strategy, Telkom University is targeting a net investment return of up to IDR 2.5 billion by the end of 2026.
Prof Suyanto further stated that the essence of an endowment fund lies not only in fundraising but also in its ability to continue growing and providing benefits to society. He noted that throughout the 2017–2026 period, Telkom University’s endowment fund has distributed IDR 2.13 billion to 4,783 beneficiaries.
He said that 78.6 percent of the total distribution was allocated to student education scholarship programmes. Meanwhile, 21.4 percent was channelled to support lecturer and student research, community service activities, and various social programmes involving the academic community.
Looking ahead, he said the returns from the endowment fund management will be utilised to expand scholarship quotas, support the acceleration of research relevant to industry and societal needs, and strengthen various capacity-building programmes for students, lecturers, educational staff, alumni, and the campus community.
