Telkom strengthens earthquake impact mitigation in NTT

In addition to infrastructure restoration, the state-owned enterprise has also provided free internet access at a number of evacuation posts.

Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is strengthening mitigation efforts to reduce the risk from natural disasters, including the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), by adding alternative sources of electrical power.

“Our network has been built with redundancy in mind,” said Telkom Indonesia President Director Dian Siswarini on the sidelines of the Batic 2026 forum in Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali, on Tuesday.

She explained that the fibre optic network has a ring configuration as well as an electrical power system.

In addition to using electricity supplied by the state electricity company PLN, the company also has backup power sources, namely batteries and generators.

According to her, these backup power sources serve as a cushion when the main power source is disrupted following an earthquake.

At present, she continued, internet connectivity and telecommunications services in NTT have been fully restored within approximately three days after the first earthquake occurred on 15 August 2025.

Besides infrastructure restoration, the state-owned enterprise has also provided free internet access at a number of evacuation posts.

This support helps affected victims communicate with their families, obtain information, and support coordination efforts during the emergency period.

On the other hand, the company has also distributed humanitarian aid in five affected areas, namely Nagekeo, Reo, Ruteng, Maumere, and Bima, covering food and basic necessities, baby and child supplies, and household logistics.

“So after the equipment for backup electricity needs, we also deployed more personnel to help operate it, and we also distributed aid to the victims affected by the NTT earthquake,” she said.
