Telkom Strengthens Collaboration to Face Quantum Computing Era Threats
PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk is strengthening its role as part of the national cybersecurity ecosystem in facing the threats of the quantum computing era. This commitment was reinforced during a Coordination Meeting on the Urgency of Policy Formulation to Face the Post-Quantum Computing (PQC) Era, held on Thursday, August 6, 2026. The forum gathered input from various stakeholders, including the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs (Kemenko Polkam), the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), academics, industry players, and the cybersecurity community, to form the basis of a national policy.
Deputy for Communication and Information Coordination at Kemenko Polkam, Marsda TNI Eko Dono Indarto, stressed that preparation for the post-quantum era must be a national strategic agenda. He noted that this is no longer a sectoral issue but requires close collaboration between the government, industry, academics, and the community to ensure adequate readiness for the changing landscape of future cybersecurity.
As a follow-up, the forum formulated several priority steps, including the drafting of a National Roadmap for Post-Quantum Cryptography Migration, the prioritisation of protection for highly confidential data, and the strengthening of cross-sector coordination. A proposal was also put forward to establish a National Quantum Center as a hub for national collaboration in research, standardisation, talent development, and the implementation of quantum technology.
Telkom’s Director of Strategic Business Development & Portfolio, Seno Soemadji, stated that the challenge of quantum computing cannot be addressed by technology adoption alone but requires a comprehensive strengthening of national capabilities. He affirmed that Telkom is ready to act as a strategic partner for the government. Through Telkom University, the company is developing research on Post-Quantum Cryptography and digital talent, while also preparing for the quantum-safe era by developing quantum-safe networks and data centres.
BSSN Deputy for Cybersecurity and Crypto Strategy, Marsda TNI R. Tjahjo Kurniawan, explained that cybersecurity is the main foundation for the success of digital transformation. He urged all stakeholders to raise awareness of the risks of quantum attacks and to immediately prepare for a gradual and measured migration of cryptography.
Chairman of CISSReC, Pratama Persadha, added that organisations should not wait until quantum computers can actually break current cryptographic systems to begin preparations. He suggested that the most realistic initial step is to inventory digital assets and identify the most critical data to facilitate a gradual migration to quantum-resistant security systems. The meeting concluded that through strong synergy, Indonesia can not only anticipate future cyber threats but also leverage quantum technology to strengthen national digital competitiveness and sovereignty.
