Telkom Indonesia is inviting the public to make changes through simple behaviours to welcome Earth Day 2026. This effort serves as a step to preserve the sustainability of Indonesia’s digital space. It is known that every digital activity leaves a “physical footprint” behind the scenes, where these activities rely on thousands of kilometres of cables and the operations of thousands of people. In the Telkom office environment, this awareness begins with the presence of a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) as part of the GoZero initiative (Telkom’s Sustainability Initiative). This device converts plastic bottles into digital incentives to transform office waste into valuable resources while fostering a culture of waste sorting at the individual level. The results of consistent small habits by employees supporting the GoZero ambition are clearly evident. Throughout 2025, Telkom successfully collected more than 3.3 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to 177,915 bottles, to divert from final disposal sites. “This is proof that a sincere intention to start new habits at the workstation is the main fuel for achieving the company’s larger sustainability targets,” stated Telkom’s management, quoted on Wednesday (22/4/2026). This spirit of change also extends to the scale of technical operations. Telkom recognises that the infrastructure connecting Indonesia must be managed in a “circular” manner. To that end, in 2025, Telkom took steps through Cable Circularity, ensuring that 73% of fibre optic cable waste is diverted from final disposal for re-management within the value chain. Additionally, Green Infrastructure involves standardising environmentally friendly buildings through international EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification at Graha Sarana Duta, which guarantees measurable energy and resource efficiency. Furthermore, Telkom has established six decarbonisation levers as a guide for its strategy towards Net Zero Emissions by 2060. Currently, Telkom is focusing on the initial phase (2023-2030) with targets to reduce emissions by cutting 20% of GHG emissions (Scopes 1 and 2), then energy efficiency by reducing energy consumption by up to 10% through network technology modernisation, renewable energy by building solar PV panels with a capacity of more than 14 MWp, and waste management in the form of at least 70% waste reduction and maximum recovery of fibre optic cables. “Telkom’s achievements throughout 2025 prove that digital innovation and natural preservation can go hand in hand. By valuing every small step, from plastic bottles in employees’ hands to network modernisation across the country, Telkom is building a cleaner future for Indonesia,” stated Telkom. “Ultimately, the success of a technology entity is not only measured by network speed, but by the footprint it leaves on the earth. Telkom is committed to continuing to deliver connections that are not only fast, but also clean. Happy Earth Day 2026,” concluded Telkom’s statement.
