Telkom Plays Important Role in Global AI and Cloud Infrastructure
Technology continues to develop and change the way the world works. At present, there are at least three such technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud, and digital platforms.
Telin President Director Abdul Rahman Ansyori explained that AI is changing the way people work. Meanwhile, cloud will change the way companies develop their businesses, and digital platforms are changing the way customers interact.
“These three changes that are currently happening powerfully will converge on the need for one thing, namely connectivity,” he explained at a press conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Tuesday (25/8/2026).
However, he noted that connectivity needs in the AI era are somewhat different, as they are more dynamic and distinct from what exists today. Therefore, a revolution is needed among network providers.
“Because our network today no longer merely connects information or transfers information, but in fact the network we are building today is meant to connect intelligence,” he added.
The increase in connectivity demand in the AI era is also being felt by Telin. Bandwidth requirements for AI have reached ten times the previous level.
The need for connectivity is also evident from the Bifrost submarine cable linking Singapore to the United States. The cable’s capacity was used up in less than a year, even though its construction took five years.
“So at present, the speed of demand growth is far higher or faster than our ability to build the infrastructure,” said Telkom Indonesia Director of Wholesale & International Services, Budi Satria Dharma Purba.
Budi said Telin’s business growth is also quite high. Revenue from the business supported by international submarine cables has grown by up to 20% annually.
Going forward, Telin will continue to develop international submarine cables. “We remain consistent with that,” he said.
