JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The collaboration between PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) marks an initial step towards integrating digital infrastructure with low-carbon energy for data centre development in Indonesia.

This partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Jakarta on Friday (10/4), as an effort to strengthen the foundation of a more efficient and sustainable digital ecosystem amid continuously increasing data needs.

Senior Director of Business Performance and Assets Optimization at Danantara Indonesia, Bhimo Aryanto, views this synergy as not only oriented towards efficiency but also opening new economic opportunities.

“We see this collaboration as an important momentum to strengthen the integration between the digital and energy sectors,” said Bhimo, in a press statement on Monday (13/4/2026).

“The synergy being built will not only create efficiency but also open opportunities for creating new sustainable value, as well as strengthening Indonesia’s position in the regional digital ecosystem,” he added.

The scope of the collaboration includes joint studies up to exploring the implementation of green energy for TelkomGroup’s data centre operations, both domestically and internationally. This effort is part of a strategy to ensure a stable supply of clean energy for next-generation data centres.

Telkom’s President Director, Dian Siswarini, emphasised the importance of energy readiness in driving national digital competitiveness.

“This collaboration supports the readiness of clean and efficient energy for sustainable data centre development, while strengthening Indonesia’s digital sovereignty,” Dian stated.

“This also drives Indonesia as a regional digital hub and aligns with TelkomGroup’s ambition to become a digital infrastructure powerhouse in the region,” she continued.

This situation opens up opportunities for cost efficiency while accelerating the adoption of low-carbon energy in data centre operations, which are known for high energy consumption.

PGN’s President Director, Arief Kurnia Risdianto, mentioned that biomethane is an important part of the company’s business transformation.

“PGN has stepped further from being merely a conventional natural gas provider, but also as a provider of clean energy that becomes the foundation for future infrastructure,” Arief explained.

“This biomethane initiative for data centres opens new value-added opportunities while supporting the national energy transition,” he added.
