Responding to IG Ngurah Budi's letter that Telkom has been
giving deceptive discounts, (published in Kompas on Oct. 10),
Telkom has deemed it necessary to clarify that it is unable to
fulfill immediately the request of residents in Graha Indah
housing complex, Bekasi.

Telkom needs to build its new line network in phases and
without interruption to adjust to site conditions and existing
costs, as well as the number of prospective customers on the
waiting list.

Telkom's discount program, promoted via some media to the
public, is especially offered to prospective customers living in
locations where Telkom has built its line network.

As Telkom's line network development plan in Graha Indah,
Bekasi, will be implemented in 2002, Telkom calls on those
housing complex residents who have not yet registered their
property for a telephone connection to immediately contact
Telkom, at phone number 147.
