PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (TLKM) has spoken out regarding plans to consolidate the tower business. As is known, PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk, or Mitratel, is reported to be planning a merger with PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG).

Telkom President Director Dian Siswarini said that through its subsidiary Mitratel, the Telkom Group remains open to every opportunity to improve the industry landscape.

“Particularly in the tower sector or tower industry, the Telkom Group through Mitratel is always ready to adapt and open to every opportunity to improve that industry landscape,” she said at a virtual press conference on Monday (7/9/2026).

Dian explained that the corporate action to be taken in the tower business would be similar to the telecommunications business, where consolidation is a natural phase in the maturation or health of an industry, especially in sectors that are highly capital-intensive and require large long-term investment.

“So the consolidation process within the industry can drive greater efficiency, and also open up opportunities for collaboration or cooperation that accelerate more equitable digital access,” she said.

However, Dian emphasised that such corporate action must remain focused on strengthening the business and creating long-term value, not only for Mitratel but also for the Telkom Group as a whole.

At the same event, Telkomsel’s Director of Finance and Risk Management Daru Mulyaman said management had a positive assessment of the consolidation. The market share held by mobile operators as a whole would encourage operators to become more rational and focused on profitability and business growth.

“We see this as able to encourage healthier competition and more sustainable industry growth. Going forward, we believe that initiatives related to product simplification, both in starter packs and renewals, will help bring the industry towards greater stability, although macroeconomic conditions still need to be watched,” he concluded.

As background, Mitratel was recently reported to be planning a merger with TBIG. Mitratel has also asked advisers to submit a plan for the possible merger.

Similar reports emerged back in 2015. However, the transaction did not proceed after failing to obtain further approval.

Telkom Indonesia stated that Mitratel conducts periodic evaluations of strategic options for business development and long-term value creation. However, there has been no further confirmation of the reports.
