Telkom Equips 260 Women UMKM Entrepreneurs to Become Digital Creators, Develop Businesses and Level Up Through AI
In commemoration of Kartini Day, PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) held the Kartini in Technology training in April 2026, attended by 260 women UMKM entrepreneurs from various regions in a hybrid format. The programme aims to enhance women’s capacity in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) technology to support business development.
The AI training covers content creation for marketing to strengthening effective and efficient digital communication strategies. This initiative is driven by the strategic role of women in the national economy, supported by UMKM, which contributes around 60.5% to GDP and absorbs nearly 97% of the workforce.
Based on data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) for 2025, around 64.5% or 37 million UMKM actors in Indonesia are run by women. However, accelerating digitalisation demands increased capabilities, particularly in utilising new technologies like AI, to keep businesses relevant and competitive.
Telkom Indonesia’s SGM Social Responsibility, Hery Susanto, stated that empowering women through technology is a strategic step in creating an inclusive digital ecosystem.
“Telkom Indonesia is committed to opening equal access and opportunities in technology utilisation, especially for women UMKM entrepreneurs. The momentum of Kartini Day serves as a reminder that women are not only users but also creators capable of generating added value through technology. With the spirit of Bersama Jadi Bisa, we believe Indonesian women can master AI to enhance their business competitiveness,” said Hery.
Through this training, Telkom provides practical skills training covering strong copywriting for marketing, creating attractive product visuals, to AI-based promotional video production. This approach is expected to help UMKM actors overcome challenges in building branding and optimally expanding their business market reach.
More than just training, this programme is part of Telkom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the national digital ecosystem. By encouraging technology adoption among women UMKM entrepreneurs, Telkom also opens broader economic opportunities while accelerating equitable digital transformation. In line with the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goal 5 on gender equality and goal 8 on decent work and economic growth, Telkom continues to strive for sustainable social impact.
