PT Telkom Akses, an operating company of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting the equitable distribution of digital human resource quality across Indonesia. This commitment was realised through the inauguration of the Fibre Optic (FO) Laboratory at SMKN 1 Tuhelembu in North Nias Regency, North Sumatra, on Friday (26/6). The ceremony was conducted via a hybrid format, connecting with SMKN 1 Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, and SMKN 1 Sorong, Southwest Papua.

This programme is an implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between Telkom Akses and the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Special Education, and Special Service Education under the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, aimed at developing the competence of Vocational High Schools (SMK) in 3T (frontier, outermost, and least developed) regions.

The Director of Human Capital & Information Technology at Telkom Akses, Nizar, stated that the industrial sector has a responsibility to help build a vocational education ecosystem capable of producing talent that meets industry needs.

“Indonesia’s digital transformation will not be optimal if the improvement of human resource quality is only concentrated in major cities. The industrial world plays a vital role in helping to expand access to education and competence, including in 3T regions that still face various limitations,” said Nizar.

This educational assistance programme, valued at over IDR 100 million, is being implemented over six months, targeting three schools designated by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education: SMKN 1 Tuhelembu, SMKN 1 Kupang Regency, and SMKN 1 Sorong.

Teachers participated in an intensive five-day training session covering fundamental fibre optic concepts, Integrated Optical Distribution Network (IODN) device installation, access network installation, fibre optic splicing, and fibre optic network measurement. All participants received a Basic Level Competency Certificate (KKNI Level 3) to equip them with the skills necessary to transfer this knowledge to their students.

In addition to the training, Telkom Akses also constructed Fibre Optic practical laboratories equipped with simulation devices such as Joint Closures, Optical Distribution Points (ODP), poles and accessories, as well as customer premises simulation boards. The laboratories were designed by the Telkom Akses Fibre Academy and built through the collaboration of various company units.
