Telkom Accelerates Digital Infrastructure Development, Here's the Strategy
PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has confirmed it will continue to expand its digital infrastructure development. Telkom’s President Director, Dian Siswarini, stated that demand for digital connectivity is indeed rising rapidly at present.
“We are in fact continuing to build and expand our digital infrastructure. We know that demand is even increasing now,” Dian said during the opening keynote of the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC) 2026 in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
To date, the fibre optic network built by Telkom has reached 545,011 km, comprising 115,844 km of domestic routes and 429,167 km of international routes.
Meanwhile, for international submarine cables, Telkom has operated 34 submarine cable systems, with 12 systems owned directly through consortiums and 22 systems utilising its own capacity.
More than 98% of Indonesia’s population is now covered by Telkomsel’s BTS network. In addition, Telkom operates 36 data centres, both on a global and domestic scale, as well as three satellites.
Dian said that operating and building infrastructure is no longer simply about connecting points, but rather requires integrating the capabilities of each digital infrastructure component.
“So it is about how to connect international corridors to domestic networks, from networks to data centres and computing, and from infrastructure to intelligent digital services and enterprise solutions,” Dian explained.
Telkom is currently building a platform for digital growth to connect Indonesia with the rest of the world. This move is expected to bring various global digital opportunities into Indonesia.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology is also prompting Telkom to align its infrastructure capacity with capabilities, talent, and innovation.
“So what we are emphasising here is that it is not enough to simply build this infrastructure to expand scale and capacity, but we must also introduce intelligent capabilities, more innovation, and more advanced technology into this infrastructure,” he concluded.
