Telecoms and IT expo in 2000

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) will hold an annual international conference and exhibition on telecommunications, broadcasting and information technology.

The Indonesian International Telecommunications, Media & Information Technology Conference and Exhibition (IITELMIT 2000), will be held from June 28 to July 1 next year at the Jakarta Convention Center.

Alan Solowiejczk, chief executive officer of the event organizer, South East Asia Conference and Exhibition Co., said on Friday top management figures from international firms and about 150 local and foreign companies were expected to participate in the event.

He said at least 17 firms, including Samsung, Lucent, PT Iridium Indonesia, Motorola, Siemens AG, Ericsson and Nokia, had booked spaces at the exhibition.

"The event is expected to help stimulate foreign direct investment in the sectors here as well as raising people's awareness on the benefit of the convergence of telecommunications, broadcasting and information technology," he said.

IITELMIT 2000 will be co-hosted by state-owned telecommunications companies Telkom and Indosat. (cst)
