Telecom seminar planned
JAKARTA (JP): The Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications will hold a major seminar on human resources development in the telecommunication sector at the Bandung Institute of Technology in West Java.
"The five-day seminar, scheduled to start on Sept. 4, will be opened by President Soeharto and will feature distinguished speakers, including U.S. Vice President Al Gore," Jonathan Parapak, the ministry's secretary-general, told journalists yesterday.
The seminar's organizers said that other than Gore, who will participate via a satellite link, the event will feature other international speakers, such as U.S. economist Paul Krugman and several chief executive officers from multinational telecommunication firms.
Parapak also said that several Indonesian ministers will participate in the seminar as well. They include Minister of Manpower Abdul Latief, State Minister of Research and Technology B.J. Habibie, State Minister of National Development Planning Ginandjar Kartasasmita, Minister for Education and Culture Wardiman Djojonegoro and Minister of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications Joop Ave. (hdj)
