Tehran Oil Depot Ravaged by Fire After Israel Attacks Iran
The United States and Israel have again attacked several sites in Iran. This time, the strikes targeted an oil storage depot and refinery facilities in Tehran. According to detikNews on Sunday (8 March 2026), a large fire was reported in Tehran following the attack. Flames were seen rising on the northern outskirts of the Iranian capital.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility for the strike. Israel targeted oil facilities said to be affiliated with the Islamic Republic’s armed forces.
The attack was also reported by Iran’s state media. It marked the first reported strike on the Islamic Republic’s oil infrastructure. “We report that an oil depot in southern Tehran has been targeted by the United States and the Zionist regime,” IRNA, the official news agency, said.
The oil depot is located in an area near a major refinery. However ILNA reported that the refinery facility did not suffer damage from the military strike. In addition, another oil depot was hit in Tehran’s northwest region. AFP journalists saw flames and smoke rising from the site.
As previously noted, on 28 February, the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and sparked a war in the Middle East. Iran itself retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and US interests across the region.
Iran Will Respond to Attacks by Neighboring Countries. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said his country is obliged to respond to every attack or invasion attempt launched from neighbouring states. Pezeshkian said responding does not mean antagonising the country, but responding as necessary.
This statement was broadcast on state television on Sunday (8 March). The statement was addressed to Iran’s enemies attempting to attack the country. “If Iran’s enemies attempt to use any country to attack or invade our land, we will be forced to respond to that attack. Responding does not mean we have a quarrel with that country or wish to harm its people – we will respond as needed,” Pezeshkian said.
Earlier, the Iranian president apologised to neighbouring countries hosting US military bases for the attacks in their territories. Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it could wage intense warfare for six months against the United States and Israel.
