Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran on Monday warned that any location used to launch attacks against the country would be considered a “legitimate target” for retaliatory strikes.

In a statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry warned neighbouring countries not to allow their territory or facilities to be used by the United States or any other party to carry out attacks against Iran.

It stated that neighbouring countries are obliged under international law to prevent their territory from being used for military action against Iran, and warned that the “point of origin” of any attack would become a target for Iran’s armed forces.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the US attacks carried out over the past 22 hours, describing them as a serious violation of the UN Charter and a threat to international peace and security.

The ministry accused Washington of violating nearly every provision of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed 25 days ago, and of committing “war crimes” by targeting transport infrastructure, fishing boats, cargo vessels, and meteorological facilities.

The ministry also accused the US of interfering in the arrangement of the Strait of Hormuz, saying the move had returned insecurity to the strategic maritime route and disrupted international commercial shipping.

Regional tensions have risen in recent days amid exchanges of attacks between US and Iranian forces.

On Sunday (12/7), Iran said it had launched attacks on US military sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, and Oman in retaliation for US strikes on a number of Iranian targets.
