Tehran Hopes Russia Will Support Iran's Rights Amid US-Israel Attacks
Tehran (ANTARA) — Iran hopes Russia will use its influence on the international stage to support the legitimate rights of the Iranian people amid the ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel, said Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian in a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Iranian president also rejected claims that Tehran attacked Azerbaijan.
Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said that Iran would continue to defend itself until the aggression and attacks, which he described as barbaric acts by the United States and Israel, are halted.
‘We continue to exercise the inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter until this barbaric aggression and attacks cease. Our response is legitimate, necessary, and proportionate,’ Iravani told reporters at the UN headquarters.
He stated that Iran is only targeting military targets in response to the aggression directed at the country.
On Saturday (28/2), the United States and Israel launched attacks against a number of targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
The attack resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran subsequently retaliated by launching attacks on Israeli territory as well as United States military bases in various parts of the Middle East, as a self-defence measure.
