Tehran Delivers New Message to US: We Demand an End to the War & Iran’s Rights

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Iran’s Foreign Ministry has stated that it has called for an end to the war across the region and the release of frozen assets abroad to the United States (US). This marks Tehran’s latest response to Trump’s reaction to Iran’s reply regarding the peace proposal between the two countries, delivered over the weekend.

“We are not demanding any concessions. The only thing we demand is Iran’s legitimate rights,” said ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei during the weekly press conference, quoted by AFP on Monday (11/5/2026).

He stated that Iran’s other demands include ending the war in the region and lifting the US naval blockade. Iran also urged the release of assets belonging to the Iranian people, which have been unfairly trapped in foreign banks for years due to US sanctions.

Meanwhile, earlier, US President Donald Trump described Iran’s conditions for ending the Middle East war as “completely unacceptable”. That Sunday statement heightened the possibility of new conflict and caused oil prices to surge sharply in early Asian trading on Monday, with Brent rising 4.65% to US$99.95 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) also jumping more than 4% to US$105.5 per barrel.

Trump explained in a post on his Truth Social platform that he would reject Tehran’s counter-proposal. Unfortunately, he did not provide details about its contents.

“I just read the response from what is so-called the ‘Iranian Representative’. I don’t like it – COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!” Trump said.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also emphasised that the conflict will not end until Iran’s nuclear facilities are eliminated. Israeli forces also launched war against Iran alongside the US on 28 February.

“This is not over, because there is still nuclear material (enriched uranium) that must be removed from Iran. There are still enrichment sites that must be dismantled,” Netanyahu said to the CBS programme.

“Never Submit to the Enemy”

It should be noted that Iran responded to Washington’s latest peace proposal on Sunday, warning that it would not hesitate to retaliate against US attacks. Especially if Uncle Sam maintains a challenging stance during diplomatic efforts to bring the conflicting parties back to the negotiating table.

“We will never submit to the enemy, and if there is talk of dialogue or negotiation, it does not mean surrender or retreat,” wrote Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on X on Sunday.

Previously, according to the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the peace proposal, Iran countered the US by requesting to continue diluting some of its highly enriched uranium, with the rest transferred to a third country. Iran also requested guarantees that the transferred uranium would be returned if negotiations fail or Washington abandons the agreement.

Regarding the Strait of Hormuz specifically, Iran would impose fees on ships passing through. However, for US officials, this is unacceptable, especially if Tehran controls the vital international waterway for one-fifth of the world’s oil.

According to the state broadcaster IRIB, not only peace in Iran, but the country also demands peace in Lebanon, where Israel continues its fight with Tehran-backed Hezbollah. Similar to the Wall Street Journal, Iran also asked the US to ensure shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Another source stated that the US requested an extension of the ceasefire in the Gulf to allow talks on resolving the conflict and Iran’s disputed nuclear programme. Trump himself is expected to press Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iran’s main oil buyer, on the issue with Tehran when he visits Beijing on Thursday, according to a senior US official.

Attacks on Arab Countries

Meanwhile, a new drone attack occurred on Gulf countries on Sunday. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) said its air defence intercepted a drone attack launched from Iran.

Kuwait also reported an “enemy drone” in its airspace. Qatar’s Ministry of Defence stated that a cargo ship arriving in its waters from Abu Dhabi was hit by a drone attack.
