Tehran Attacked; Iran Prepares Counterattack against Israel
The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to launch a counterattack against Israel, which carried out a strike on Tehran on Saturday, 28 February 2026, local time.
In a statement from the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Jakarta, this retaliatory strike represents a legitimate right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
“The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will fully exercise this right in order to preserve the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran by providing a firm and strong response to the aggression of the Zionist Israeli regime and the United States,” the Iranian Embassy stated in its release on Saturday.
Iran also stated that the Israeli attack, led by the United States, was directed at civilian locations and vital infrastructure in Tehran.
On this basis, Iran has also requested that the UN Security Council take decisive action against the violations committed by the United States and Israel.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran requests the President and Members of the Security Council to take immediate steps in this matter,” the embassy stated.
Iran has also requested Indonesia’s support in condemning the actions of Israel and the United States.
It was previously reported that Israel struck Tehran on Saturday, 28 February 2026, in the morning, subsequently closing its airspace and declaring a state of emergency.
According to The Guardian, the airspace closure was implemented by Israel as a precaution in case Iran retaliates by deploying drones and missiles.
An Israeli military spokesman stated that the bombardment was a preemptive strike to eliminate threats to the nation.
It remains unclear whether Khamenei, 86, was at his office during the attack. He has not been seen in public for several days, amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States.
The United States is reported to have been involved in the Israeli strike on Iran.
