Teguh upsets seeded Chen in Milo Open

Most of the top seeds in the boys' singles advanced to the
fourth round of the Milo Junior Indonesia Open on Wednesday, but
China lost its 3/4th seed Chen Tianyu to local talent Teguh
Siswanto.

Chen was surprised 12-15, 3-15 by Teguh in the second round.

Boys' singles top seed Lu Qicheng stamped his authority in his
matches with easy wins over local opponents in the second and
third rounds, both played on Wednesday.

Lu thrashed Azwar 15-2, 15-3 and Imbar Haryadi 15-4, 15-2.

Second seed Fauzi Adnan of Indonesia beat Sayed Matir of Syria
15-4, 15-1 in the second round and then Wawan of Indonesia 15-8,
15-2.

Zairul Hafiz Zainuddin of Malaysia, also seeded 3/4, was
tested in both his matches, defeating Kasman of Indonesia 15-9,
15-3 and Ricky Widianto of Singapore 15-6, 17-16.

Achmad Rivai of Indonesia, who played for Indonesia in the
Asian Junior Badminton Championship in Jakarta two weeks ago and
is 5/8 seed, was too strong for a pair of compatriots, beating
Rai Vichy Sopha Yupinato 15-2, 15-6 and Farhad 15-4, 15-4.

The girls set up their quarterfinals for Thursday.

Girls' singles top seed, 17-year-old Wang Yihan of China, who
is suffering from a knee strain, almost lost in the second round,
finally pulling out a 9-11, 11-0, 11-8 against 15-year-old Maria
Febe Kusumastuti, who plays for the Djarum club.

In the deciding game, Maria Febe took a 8-3 lead, but a string
of errors allowed Wang back into the match.

Wang gave a more convincing 11-7, 11-7 display in the
afternoon against Pupin, another local player.

Second seed Tai Yi also advanced and will meet 5/8 seed Pia
Zebadiah of Indonesia, the opponent who beat her in the team
event of the Asian Junior Badminton Championship,

Tai drubbed Felicia of Indonesia 11-1, 11-0 before overcoming
Gu Juan of Singapore 13-10, 11-2.

Pia cruised against Goh Liu Ying of Malaysia 11-4, 11-4 and
Richi Puspita Dili of Indonesia 11-2, 11-7.

Belaetrix Manuputty of Indonesia, the 3/4th seed, also
advanced by defeating Zhang Beiwen of Singapore 13-12, 11-4 in
the third round. The player, nicknamed Bela, beat Sanmiarsih of
Indonesia in the second round.

"She has the chances to reach at least the semifinal," Retno
Kustiyah, senior coach of Jaya Raya club and a former national
doubles coach, said of Bela.

"The competition among players is tough, so it depends on who
is ready to play, that's who will win."

The boys' and girls's doubles as well as the mixed doubles
were being played on Wednesday evening.
