Tegal City Government Launches Affordable Food Programme and Distributes Nutritional Aid Packages
The Tegal City Government, in Central Java, has launched a Gerakan Pangan Murah (Affordable Food Movement) by providing 1,000 subsidised food packages. Additionally, 300 nutritional aid packages were distributed to target groups consisting of 100 pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency (KEK), 100 toddlers at risk of stunting, and 100 packages of fish-based processed food for KEK pregnant women.
The GPM activity and the handover of aid for the Gerakan Minum Susu dan Makan Telur Itik (GERIMISMATIK) and Gerakan Memasyarakatkan Makan Ikan (GEMARIKAN) programmes took place at the Tegal Timur District Hall on Wednesday (24/6/2026). The initiative is part of the government’s effort to maintain food price affordability while improving the nutritional quality of the community.
Tegal Mayor Dedy Yon Supriyono stated that food security and nutritional fulfilment are crucial foundations for human resource development. The government is present to ensure that the public continues to have access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food amidst fluctuating food prices. “Through the Affordable Food Movement, the Tegal City Government seeks to help residents obtain basic necessities at more affordable prices,” said Dedy Yon.
The 1,000 affordable food packages provided consisted of premium rice and cooking oil, subsidised through a collaboration between the Tegal City Government, Bank Indonesia, Bank Jateng, and Bulog. The food packages, normally priced at IDR 90,000, were sold for IDR 80,000 for cash transactions and IDR 75,000 for QRIS transactions. In addition to the subsidised packages, residents could also purchase various other affordable commodities, including SPHP rice, Minyak Kita, sugar, shallots, garlic, chillies, chicken eggs, and broiler chicken meat.
On the same occasion, the Tegal City Government also distributed GERIMISMATIK and GEMARIKAN aid as part of efforts to accelerate stunting reduction. A total of 300 nutritional aid packages were distributed to target groups: 100 for pregnant women with KEK, 100 for toddlers at risk of stunting, and 100 packages of fish-based processed food for KEK pregnant women. “Through this programme, we strive to ensure that mothers and children receive adequate nutritional intake, because the best investment for a region is investment in the health and quality of its young generation,” Dedy Yon explained.
The Mayor also expressed appreciation for the support from various parties who have synergised to maintain food supply stability and prices, as well as to support nutritional improvement programmes. “Let us cultivate the habit of consuming diverse, nutritious, balanced, and safe foods to support the creation of a healthy, intelligent, and high-quality generation in Tegal City,” he urged.
Head of the Tegal City Marine and Fisheries, Agriculture and Food Agency, Cucuk Daryanto, explained that the GERIMISMATIK aid, consisting of milk and duck eggs, was given to pregnant women with KEK and toddlers at risk of stunting. Meanwhile, the GEMARIKAN aid, consisting of processed fish products such as bandeng gepuk and fish jelly, was given to pregnant women with KEK. According to Cucuk, the aid recipients were identified through coordination with the Tegal City Health Agency and had undergone verification and validation by each urban village. “The aid distribution was carried out in stages from 24 to 26 June 2026 across four districts: Tegal Timur, Tegal Selatan, Margadana, and Tegal Barat,” Cucuk stated.
