Tegal City Government and UT Purwokerto Collaborate to Boost Teacher Competence up to Master's Level

The Tegal City Government, in collaboration with Universitas Terbuka (UT) Purwokerto, Central Java, held a socialisation and promotion event for the Master’s Programme (S2) in Primary Education at the Adipura Room, Tegal City Hall complex, on Thursday (2/7/2026). This activity is an implementation of the cooperation between UT Purwokerto and the Tegal City Education and Culture Office to encourage the improvement of teacher competence through postgraduate education. Head of the Tegal City Education and Culture Office, Dewi Umaroh, stated that the event aimed to provide information to teachers about the Master’s Programme in Primary Education at UT Purwokerto while enhancing the competence and educational qualifications of teaching staff. “It is hoped that participants can follow up on the information obtained by enrolling in the Master’s programme, or at least begin planning further study as a form of competency improvement,” said Dewi Umaroh. Vice Mayor of Tegal, Tazkiyyatul Muthmainnah, emphasised that education is a long-term investment whose results will be felt by future generations. “The opportunity to continue education to the master’s level is an effort to improve competence, professionalism, and the quality of human resources, especially for educators in Tegal City,” she said while reading the Mayor’s speech. She also encouraged teachers not to hesitate to continue their education despite age or work commitments. “The most important thing is the spirit to keep learning in order to answer the challenges of the ever-evolving world of education,” she added. Director of UT Purwokerto, Prasetyarti Utami, explained that as an open and distance learning university, UT has provided learning opportunities for all levels of society since 1984 without restrictions on age, economic status, or background. “Through this socialisation, we hope teachers will remain enthusiastic about lifelong learning. Knowledge and skills must be continuously updated because new developments occur every day, including in digital literacy and the world of education,” said Prasetyarti. She added that UT’s learning system is supported by nationally standardised teaching materials and technology-based learning media, ensuring equal access and quality for students across various regions. Through this activity, the Tegal City Government hopes that more teachers will take advantage of the opportunity to pursue master’s degrees, thereby improving the quality of learning and producing human resources who are excellent, professional, and adaptive to the times.
