Teenager stabbed to death

JAKARTA: A teenager died on Sunday morning after being stabbed in the temple with a screwdriver by another teenager identified as Abdillah.

Wahyu Prasetyo, 17, a resident of Kalibata in South Jakarta, was pronounced dead at 4 a.m. at the Budi Asih Hospital in Cawang, East Jakarta.

The incident began when Wahyu, along with three friends, all of them reportedly drunk, stopped Abdillah who was on his way home to Pengadegan, South Jakarta.

The four reportedly demanded Rp 100,000 (US$11.70) from Abdillah. When Abdillah said he did not have any money, they told him to give them his cellular phone.

After arguing for several minutes, the drunk teenagers let Abdillah go, saying that "since you live around here, you can go".

After arriving home, Abdillah contacted a friend, Andika, and together they went looking for the four teenagers.

They spotted the four on a sidewalk near the Kalibata train station. Abdillah, who was on the back of a motorcycle, allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed Wahyu in the temple.

Pancoran Police detectives arrested Abdillah at his home at 6 a.m. He has been charged with murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. --JP
