Teenager Slashed in Head During Tangerang Brawl, Police Arrest Suspect
A 14-year-old identified as RW was slashed on the head during a brawl in Talagasari Village, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency. Tangerang Police Department apprehended MIP (18), the suspect responsible for the stabbing.
Police Commissioner Andi Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah, Chief of Tangerang Police Department, stated the altercation occurred on Otonom Market Road early on Wednesday, 20 May, after two youth groups—Kilometer 18 and Mystery 16—arranged a meeting via social media. The groups met at the location, leading to a confrontation. RW, a member of Kilometer 18, was struck on the back of the head with a corbek (a type of bladed weapon) while riding a motorcycle. “The victim sustained serious injuries,” he said.
After RW collapsed, the opposing group fled the scene. His companions then rushed him to a hospital in Jatiuwung for medical treatment.
Following a report from the hospital, police swiftly investigated the case by interviewing witnesses, analysing CCTV footage, and gathering other evidence. They identified MIP (18) as the suspect. “Within 24 hours, the suspect was apprehended at his mother’s rented house in Bekasi,” Indra Waspada said.
During the arrest, police seized a corbek, the suspect’s clothing worn during the incident, and other related evidence. MIP faces charges under Article 80 in conjunction with Article 76C of the Child Protection Law and/or Article 467(2) and/or Article 307(1) of the New Criminal Code, carrying a potential prison sentence of over five years. “We urge parents to increase supervision of their children’s activities, particularly social media use and nighttime outings, to prevent further youth brawls,” he added.
