Teenager Severely Beaten After Being Caught Near-Assaulting Woman in Kupang

A teenager identified as RJS (16) was severely beaten, allegedly by residents, after being caught near-assaulting a housewife named Lesly Barbier (37) at Sejahtera Land Oetalu residential complex in Penfui Timur Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Saturday 7 March at dawn. He committed the act whilst under the influence of alcohol.

“At the time of the incident, the suspect was allegedly in an intoxicated condition from hard liquor (sopi),” said Ipda Lalu Randy Hidayat, Head of Public Relations at Kupang Police Headquarters, to detikBali on Monday 9 March 2026.

Randy explained that the incident began when RJS was partying with several friends at a futsal field at Sejahtera Land Oetalu residential complex, consuming alcohol.

After the drinking party, RJS walked towards Lesly’s house. He then entered the house and immediately pinned down the young woman, who was sleeping soundly on her bed. RJS also embraced, kissed, and committed indecent acts against the victim. Lesly, who woke up, immediately resisted. However, RJS punched the victim in the face.

The victim, in pain, then screamed for help. Upon hearing the screams, RJS panicked and broke a window of the house before attempting to flee.

The victim’s screams prompted nearby residents to arrive at the scene. They then apprehended RJS and bound both his legs using nylon rope to prevent him from escaping.

“The victim experienced pain in the chest and left rib area due to being struck by the perpetrator,” explained Randy.

The case was subsequently reported to Kupang Police Headquarters for legal proceedings.

Based on several photographs and videos in circulation, RJS appeared severely beaten, allegedly as a result of being assaulted by the mob. Both his legs were bound using large blue nylon rope.

The floor of the victim’s house also appeared smeared with blood. RJS’s face and lips appeared swollen, allegedly due to the blows. The contents of the victim’s house also appeared in disarray.
