Teenager killed in fire

BOGOR: A teenager was killed and three others suffered serious injuries in a house fire in Bojong village, Bojong Gede district, Bogor regency, on Monday evening.

Intan Estiana Simbarani, 17, died at the scene due to severe burns. Her sister Siska, 3, father Boyke Simbarani, 42, and mother Flora Sianipar, 38, were rushed to the Bogor Red Cross Hospital. Siska, who is in a critical condition, was later transferred to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital.

Eyewitness Fadli said the fire started when Boyke was pouring gasoline into a jerrican at 8 p.m. Since it was dark, Intan lit a match, and an explosion occurred.

Neighbors tried to save the members of the household and rushed them to the hospital. The fire was extinguished two hours later.

Bojong Police chief Adj. Comr. Budiono said the fire was caused by carelessness and would be investigated further. -- JP
