Teenager in Depok Drowns While Fetching a Fishing Hook in the Ciliwung River

Head of the Dalopskarmat Damkar Depok’s division, Denny Romulo Hutauruk, said the victim had been missing since Sunday, 17 May. Before drowning, the victim briefly retrieved a fishing tool (kail) that had become snagged. ‘The victim was retrieving a fishing tool (kail) that was snagged, then the victim attempted to swim to the tool’s location,’ he said on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. The victim then drowned while retrieving the fishing tool. The victim’s friend asked nearby fishermen for help, but the victim could not be saved due to the current being so strong, the water so deep, and dusk approaching, he explained. The body was found the next morning, approaching noon. On discovery, the body was still intact. ‘Still in an intact condition (the body),’ he concluded.
