Teenager dies over sandals

JAKARTA (JP): A teenager was stabbed in his left leg during a fight and bled to death on Wednesday morning in Kebayoran Lama subdistrict, South Jakarta, the victim's father said.

Sofyan, 52, a resident of Jl. Peninggaran Timur in Kebayoran Lama, said his son Ari Safrizal, 18, got into a fight with a friend over a pair of sandals.

"Nobody knows what really happened or whose sandals they were fighting over. It was still early in the morning, just after the dawn prayer," Sofyan told reporters at the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital morgue.

Sofyan, who sells second-hand watches at Kebayoran traditional market, said Ari had just moved to Jakarta a month ago from Pekanbaru, Riau.

"He was making trouble for my family there, that's why I asked him to join us here.

"He quit school quite a long time ago and now he was also a drug user. He got into a lot of fights every time he got drunk. He was the black sheep of the family," Sofyan said.

"I hope the police can find the person who did this to my son," he added. (01)
