Police are investigating the death of a girl named Elmi Febrianti (17), who drowned at the Apparalang cliff tourist area in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. The Bulukumba Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) has summoned the management of the tourist site for a hearing.

The Bulukumba Police took over the investigation after receiving a report from the victim’s family following the incident. The investigation aims to objectively determine the chronology of the event and probe alleged negligence behind the victim’s death.

“After receiving the report, we will conduct a series of investigations by examining witnesses, the management of the tourist attraction, and collecting various necessary statements and evidence,” said Bulukumba Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Andi Imran Hamid on Tuesday (10/6/2026).

“This investigation is being conducted to determine whether there is a criminal element or negligence in the incident. We will work professionally, transparently, and based on the facts found in the field,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Bulukumba Police Chief AKBP Restu Wijayanto stated that the Apparalang tourist area has been closed with police lines installed at the location. He emphasised that the measure was taken to prevent a similar incident. “(It was closed to) prevent a recurrence. And for the sake of the investigation,” said AKBP Restu.

Deputy Chairperson of the Bulukumba DPRD, Syahruni Haris, said that the council had conducted a hearing with the management of the tourist area on Tuesday (9/6). Local government officials were also present at the location.

“Just now, and it is currently ongoing, chaired by the head of Commission B, we are holding a hearing with the management there, the Head of the Tourism Office, and several other parties, community figures. We also invited the Basarnas team,” Syahruni stated.
