A teenager in Wonosari, Gunungkidul, became the victim of an assault after a dispute over a borrowed jacket. Police have arrested 11 individuals in connection with the case, and 10 of them have been named as suspects and detained.

The Head of the Gunungkidul Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Tri Hartanto, explained that the incident began when the victim, identified as R (17), borrowed a jacket from one of the perpetrators, P. When P attempted to retrieve the jacket, he had difficulty meeting R and eventually went to R’s house.

"P and his parents even went to the victim’s house, but they only met the victim’s relatives," Tri Hartanto said on Friday (19/6/2026).

P then asked R to meet at a café in Wonosari to resolve the matter. On Tuesday (16/6), R complied with the request. However, upon meeting, P became enraged and struck the victim. It was later revealed that R had lent the jacket to another friend.

"Because he was annoyed, the perpetrator hit the victim. After that issue was settled, it turned out the victim had other problems with the perpetrators’ associates," Tri Hartanto stated.

R was then taken to an empty house in Wonosari, where a group of people was already waiting. The victim was forced into a series of one-on-one fights. After the duels, the group allegedly ganged up on R, resulting in injuries to his face.

"The victim was put into a car and taken to an empty house in Wonosari, where he was told to duel several of the perpetrators. After the duel, the mob assault occurred, causing bruises on the victim’s face, particularly his eyes, and a fractured nose, according to the victim’s statement," Tri Hartanto said.

After the assault, R returned home. His parents, upon discovering the injuries, reported the incident to the Gunungkidul Police on Wednesday (17/6). The following day, police apprehended 11 individuals.

"Yesterday, Thursday (18/6), we secured 11 people related to the assault. Of those, 10 have been named suspects and detained. One person has not been detained yet because they are still a minor and will be questioned further," Tri Hartanto confirmed.

The ten detained suspects are adults. Police are also investigating video recordings that were allegedly made during the duels. The suspects face charges under Article 80 of the Child Protection Law or Article 262 of the Criminal Code concerning gang assault.
