Teenage girl killed for calling man syssy
TANGERANG: A prosecutor urged the Tangerang District Court on Tuesday to sentence a 20-year-old man to 15 years in jail for the premeditated murder of a teenage girl who called him a sissy.
Prosecutor M. Adam said that the defendant Hendriyanto, alias Des Rinaldi, 20, killed his own relative Melisa Aprilia, 19, on May 29 because he was offended by the victim who called him a sissy as he always stayed at home and never dated girls.
The defendant, who lived in the same house as the victim, tried to kill her as she slept by strangling her using a piece of plastic rope, the prosecutor alleged. But, as the victim did not immediately die, the defendant then took a hammer from under a cupboard in the victim's bedroom and hit her twice on the head, as a result of which she died instantly.
The defendant then left for Denpasar on May 31. As he had no money and no place to live, he gave himself up to Denpasar police on June 6.
"I was offended when she (the victim) said that I was a sissy just because I didn't pay any attention when Melisa's friends came over," the defendant told The Jakarta Post as he left the courtroom. "I am a real man," he added.
Hendriyanto, a graduate of a technical high school in Talang, West Sumatra, arrived in Tangerang earlier this year to look for a job in a factory.
He had already been in Tangerang for three months when the incident happened.
The presiding judge, Benar Sihombing, adjourned the case until next Tuesday when the court will deliver its verdict. -- JP
