JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Police have revealed that the teenagers involved in a brawl armed with sharp weapons in the Tamansari area of West Jakarta were not only carrying machetes but also consuming and distributing the narcotic methamphetamine, known as sabu.

This discovery was made when police raided the suspects’ hangout spot and found packets of sabu, dozens of bottles of alcoholic beverages, and sharp weapons up to 1.5 metres long.

Tamansari Metro Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Egy Irwansyah stated that upon arrest and search, police found two packets of sabu clips weighing 1.48 grams from a suspect with initials ZA (18).

“From the suspect’s confession, it was indeed intended to be distributed to youths in the area, packaged in smaller gram quantities. So he likes to sell to the kids who enjoy brawling,” said Egy during a press conference at the Tamansari Metro Police Resort headquarters on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

However, Egy noted that ZA is not the main supplier of methamphetamine used by the teenagers in Tamansari. Police are currently delving deeper into the supply network that provides sabu to ZA for redistribution.

Egy also mentioned that police see a connection between the misuse of addictive substances and the teenagers’ actions in carrying out brawls.

“We are handling this issue comprehensively, from juvenile delinquency such as brawls to drugs and alcohol that can boost someone’s adrenaline, so even if not directly, these two cases are quite related,” he explained.

In addition to drugs, police also found dozens of bottles of alcoholic beverages that were deliberately consumed by the suspects as “doping” to become braver and more confident when attacking opponents.

“So they do it on purpose; the main motive is actually just to find their identity, but they use narcotics and alcohol to gain more confidence during brawls,” he said.

“Police swept the suspects’ hangout spots and found one suspect with initials ZA at the location who admitted to carrying out the brawl using sharp weapons; seven machetes and approximately 23 bottles of Arak Bali alcoholic drink were also found,” said Bobby.

The sharp weapons, machetes of various sizes, with the largest reaching 1.5 metres in length.

ZA then provided information that two of his accomplices with initials MF (19) and RS (18) also brought sharp weapons. Both were subsequently taken to the Tamansari Metro Police Resort headquarters.

The brawl occurred on Thursday (26/3/2026) at 03.00 WIB in the early hours on Keutamaan Dalam Street, Krukut Ward.
