A teenager in Wonosari, Gunungkidul, became the victim of an assault by a group of individuals. Police who received the report detained 11 people, with 10 of them named as suspects.

Head of Criminal Investigation at Gunungkidul Police, AKP Tri Hartanto, said the case began when the victim, R (17), borrowed a jacket belonging to one of the perpetrators, identified as P. However, when P wanted his jacket back, he had difficulty meeting R and eventually went to R’s house.

“P and his parents even went to the victim’s house, but only met the victim’s sibling,” he said when contacted by reporters on Friday (19/6/2026).

P then asked R to come to a café in Wonosari to resolve the issue. On Tuesday (16/6), R complied with P’s request.

“The victim then came to the café to resolve the jacket issue, and it turned out the perpetrator’s jacket had been lent by the victim to his friend,” he said.

Upon hearing the victim’s admission, P immediately lost his temper and hit the victim. Tri explained that it was later revealed that R also had issues with the perpetrator’s associates.

“Feeling annoyed, the perpetrator hit the victim. After that matter was settled, it turned out the victim had many problems with the perpetrators,” he said.

Consequently, P took R to an empty house in Wonosari by car. Upon arrival, many of P’s associates were already waiting.

“Because of that, he was put into a car and taken to an empty house in Wonosari and forced to duel with several perpetrators. In the end, the victim duelled in the empty house, witnessed by many people,” he said.

However, after the duel, a mob attack occurred, leaving R with injuries to his face.

“As a result of the mob attack, the victim suffered several bruises on his face, particularly around his eyes, and a fractured nose, according to the victim’s account,” he said.

After the assault, the victim went home. The victim’s parents, upon learning that their child had been victimised by the perpetrators, reported the incident to the Gunungkidul Police on Wednesday (17/6).

“Then yesterday, Thursday (18/6), we detained 11 people in connection with the mob attack. Of the 11, 10 have been named as suspects and are being held. One person has not been named yet because they are still a minor and will only be questioned,” he said.

Tri revealed that the 10 individuals are adults. Additionally, based on preliminary statements, the victim and several perpetrators engaged in a duel.

“Because during the duel, someone recorded a video, but we are still investigating that,” he said.

For their actions, the 10 suspects are charged under Article 80 paragraph 2 of the Child Protection Law or Article 262 of the Criminal Code concerning mob attacks.
