Teddy's Tour of the Cheap Market at Monas, Apologises for Queues
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya toured to inspect the implementation of the Cheap Market organised by the government in the grounds of the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta, on Saturday (28/3/2026). Kompas.com observations showed that Teddy arrived at the Monas area around 18:18 WIB wearing a white T-shirt and brown vest. Upon arriving at the location, Teddy immediately checked the Cheap Market area together with the Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), Maman Abdurrahman. From observations, Teddy toured for more than one hour, precisely until around 19:43 WIB. After inspecting the Cheap Market location, Teddy expressed his gratitude that the event ran smoothly and received high enthusiasm from the public. “The preparation was quite short, but alhamdulillah everything went smoothly in terms of security,” Teddy said after touring the Cheap Market. From the reports he received, at least 200,000 people had already come to the Cheap Market. The enthusiasm of the residents attending the location, according to him, also showed an atmosphere of joy. “This is a report from Mr. Kapolda, more than 100,000 people from 4 o’clock attended here, and it will get busier at night, maybe around 200,000,” he stated. Representing the government, Teddy also apologised if any residents had to queue while at the Cheap Market. “Then, earlier I apologised for those who queued. We have actually opened many doors, but as you said correctly, the enthusiasm is high so the queue is a bit long. But, yes, there is food, there are drinks,” he said. Because, they enjoyed the entertainment and decorations installed during the Cheap Market event. “Earlier I asked one by one, they realised that it’s okay to queue, this is also enjoying the atmosphere of Monas at night, the lights, music and so on,” he said.
