JAKARTA — Claims from the Palace that President Prabowo Subianto’s series of overseas visits have generated up to Rp 2,430 trillion in investment have raised questions. This is because the figure presented does not entirely consist of foreign investment, as is widely understood by the public.

Scrutiny regarding the frequency of President Prabowo’s overseas trips during the first year and a half of his administration has intensified. Responding to these criticisms, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya asserted that the various state visits have had a significant economic impact on Indonesia.

“The total investment entering during this 1.5-year period is approximately Rp 2,430 trillion, according to data from BKPM (Investment Coordinating Board),” Teddy stated in a video statement on Monday (1/6/2026).

He cited the President’s visit to Japan and South Korea in late March 2026, which was said to have resulted in investment commitments of approximately Rp 575 trillion.

However, an investigation of the investment realisation data released by the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM shows that the Rp 2,430 trillion figure is a combination of domestic investment (PMDN) and foreign investment (PMA) entering Indonesia from 2025 through the first quarter of 2026.

BKPM data shows that total Domestic Investment (PMDN) during this period reached Rp 1,279.1 trillion, while Foreign Investment (PMA) was recorded at Rp 1,150.9 trillion. Combined, these figures total approximately Rp 2,430 trillion, as stated by Teddy.

This means that more than half of the investment value actually originates from domestic investors, with a composition of approximately 52.64 per cent PMDN and 47.36 per cent PMA.

Furthermore, if calculated from the time Prabowo was officially inaugurated as President of the Republic of Indonesia on 20 October 2024, the total investment entering through the first quarter of 2026 reached Rp 2,882.8 trillion. This figure consists of domestic investment of Rp 1,486.1 trillion and foreign investment of Rp 1,396.7 trillion.

According to BKPM data, investment realisation in the fourth quarter of 2024 reached Rp 452.8 trillion. This figure subsequently increased to Rp 465.2 trillion in the first quarter of 2025, Rp 477.7 trillion in the second quarter of 2025, Rp 491.4 trillion in the third quarter of 2025, Rp 496.9 trillion in the fourth quarter of 2025, and surpassed Rp 498.8 trillion in the first quarter of 2026.

Consequently, the claim of Rp 2,430 trillion in investment linked to the President’s overseas visits is actually an accumulation of all investments entering Indonesia during a specific period, originating from both foreign and domestic investors. If only foreign investment is calculated from the start of the Prabowo administration to the first quarter of 2026, the value is recorded at Rp 1,396.7 trillion. This is the figure that represents the actual realisation of Foreign Investment (PMA) during the current administration’s term.
