Teddy States Temporary Teacher Incentives Rise Under Prabowo After 20 Years of Stagnation
Jakarta - The Presidential Secretariat (Seskab) Chief Teddy Indra Wijaya emphasised the government’s commitment to improving teacher welfare throughout Indonesia.
According to Teddy, one significant step in enhancing the welfare of temporary teachers under the Prabowo administration concerns the increase in incentives for temporary teachers.
“From 2005 to 2025 there has been an incentive. It has only increased during President Prabowo’s time, to IDR 400,000. So imagine, for 20 years that incentive never rose,” Teddy stated at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday (27/2/2026).
Additionally, he affirmed that the government has also raised allowances for non-ASN teachers from the previous IDR 1.5 million to IDR 2 million.
“The amount? From IDR 1.5 million last year it rose to IDR 2 million,” he said.
Teddy also mentioned that the government has reformed the allowance distribution system. Whereas previously funds were transferred to regional governments and received by teachers every three months, allowances are now distributed directly to teachers’ accounts on a monthly basis.
Furthermore, he affirmed that all education programmes in Indonesia continue to operate and focus on students, schools, and teachers.
“No education programme is being reduced or suspended. Everything continues, is carried forward, and even expanded. And in greater detail, with greater focus on students, schools, and also teachers,” Teddy stated.
For this reason, Teddy dismissed the assertion that the Free Nutritious Meals programme reduces education programmes and budgets.
“So, yesterday some parties, a small number of parties, stated that the Free Nutritious Meals programme reduces education programmes and budgets, leaving schools neglected and teachers unattended. So I want to respond, that is a misguided narrative,” Teddy said.
