Teddy Speaks for Three Hours Before Akmil Cadets in Magelang

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya provided a three-hour briefing to cadets at the Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, Central Java, on Monday, 13 July 2026. The Cabinet Secretariat stated that Teddy was invited by Akmil to address more than 1,600 first-, second-, and third-year cadets. ‘For approximately three hours, Cabinet Secretary Teddy conveyed the importance of building leadership with integrity, upholding the spirit of togetherness, and strengthening the commitment to serve the nation and state,’ the Cabinet Secretariat said in a statement. Teddy was joined by eight other speakers who shared experiences and insights on personal capacity development, maintaining discipline, and preparing for future challenges. Before becoming cabinet secretary, Teddy was a 2011 Akmil graduate. He served as a platoon commander in Kopassus before being appointed as aide-de-camp to the TNI Chief of General Staff and holding other military posts. Teddy spent most of his 14-year service as an aide. He also served as assistant aide to President Joko Widodo and as aide to Prabowo Subianto during his tenure as defence minister. After Prabowo assumed the presidency, Teddy was appointed cabinet secretary. Prabowo signed Presidential Regulation Number 148 of 2024 on the Ministry of State Secretariat, which placed the cabinet secretary position under the Presidential Military Secretary, equivalent to an echelon II role. This regulatory change allowed Teddy, who remains an active military officer, to serve as Cabinet Secretary. Following his appointment, Teddy was promoted from major to lieutenant colonel in February 2025, achieving the rank in just 20 months, or a total of 14 years since graduating from Akmil. Tempo magazine reported in its 24 May 2026 edition that Teddy’s promotion drew criticism among retired and active TNI generals, as it appeared inconsistent with TNI Commander Regulation Number 87 of 2022 on military rank. That regulation required a minimum of 18 years of service, whereas Teddy had only served 14 years when he received the two-jasmine insignia. The TNI Commander subsequently amended the regulation by issuing TNI Commander Regulation Number 15 of 2025 on rank in March 2025, one month after Teddy became a lieutenant colonel. The new rule allows promotion from major to lieutenant colonel after 14 years of service.
