Teddy: President Prabowo Covers Overseas Travel Costs from Personal Funds

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya claimed President Prabowo Subianto personally covers overseas travel costs. For instance, if overseas travel expenses exceed the allocated budget, Prabowo covers the excess from his personal funds.

“Any costs exceeding the national budget are fully covered by President Prabowo personally,” Teddy stated in a video statement on Monday, 1 June 2026.

He also claimed the size of the presidential delegation on overseas trips has decreased under Prabowo compared to previous administrations. Teddy said previous delegations could exceed 120 people, but under Prabowo, it’s capped at 50-60.

“The current state delegation is now half the size of previous administrations. This is widely known, including by journalists,” he said.

Teddy did not specify the allocated budget for Prabowo’s overseas visits or the amount he personally covers. His clarification responds to criticism from Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) founder Dino Patti Djalal, who previously advised President Prabowo to significantly reduce overseas travel frequency.

In an Instagram video, Dino stated many Indonesians have called for the president to cut travel and not ignore public concerns. “Based on our calculations, President Prabowo is the world leader who has undertaken the most overseas trips,” he said.

The former Deputy Foreign Minister added that a single presidential trip can cost tens to hundreds of billions of rupiah, including advance teams, aircraft, hotels, logistics, catering, protocol and security, daily allowances for delegation members, and other expenses.
