Tecno Pova Curve 2: Ultra-thin Phone with an 8,000mAh Battery
Tecno Pova Curve 2 is shaking up the mid-range smartphone market again with an ultra-thin design and a battery endurance that surpasses expectations. At a price around US$300 (about Rp4.7 million), the device promises a balance between aesthetics and extreme functionality.
Tecno Pova Curve 2 achieves an impressive design milestone. With a thickness of only 7.42mm and a weight of 195 grams, the phone is among the most comfortably gripped devices with a 6.78-inch display.
The use of a curved display gives a premium feel, although the chassis material remains plastic to keep costs down.
The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, claimed to be impact resistant. However, users should note that the device only carries an IP64 certification, meaning it is resistant to light splashes rather than total immersion.
The heart of the device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset, a mid-range processor capable of everyday tasks. Available RAM options are 8GB or 12GB, ensuring smooth multitasking. In tests of demanding games like Genshin Impact, the phone can maintain frame rates of 30-35 fps at maximum settings.
Visual performance is another strong point, with an AMOLED 1080p panel supporting up to 144Hz refresh rate. Peak brightness reaches 1,600 nits, providing excellent legibility under direct sunlight.
The standout feature of the Tecno Pova Curve 2 is the 8,000mAh battery. It is rare to find a phone as thin as 7.42mm that can house such capacity. In real-world use, one hour of gaming consumes only 13% of power, while watching videos uses 5%. For normal usage, the phone can last up to two full days between charges.
However, the 45W charging speed feels somewhat slow for such capacity, requiring more than an hour for a full charge. Additionally, wireless charging is not available.
The camera setup appears to be an area where Tecno economises. There is only one main 50MP camera, paired with a 2MP macro sensor. There is no ultrawide or telephoto lens. The absence of Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) makes photography in low light or with moving subjects challenging.
On the software side, the phone runs Android 16 with HiOS 16. Tecno includes an AI assistant named “Ella” that supports text summarisation and AI-powered photo editing features. On the upside, bloatware is much reduced compared with earlier generations.
The Tecno Pova Curve 2 is an attractive choice for users who prioritise mobility and battery life without wanting a thick and heavy device. While it does compromise on camera quality and a single speaker audio setup, the value offered at US$300 is highly competitive.
