The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) is currently studying the installation of a pelican crossing as a temporary replacement for the Tendean footbridge (JPO) in South Jakarta, which was dismantled after being hit by a truck. DKI Jakarta Transportation Head Budi Awaluddin stated that the study will be completed in the near future. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency is currently conducting a technical study for the installation of a pelican crossing, which is a pedestrian crossing facility in the form of a zebra cross equipped with pedestrian traffic lights, at the location,” Budi told reporters on Sunday (19/7/2026). Budi said the study is being conducted with safety aspects in mind. He noted that several factors are being analysed. “The study is carried out by considering the safety aspects of pedestrians and road users, through analysis of traffic volume, road geometric conditions, and traffic flow characteristics at the location,” he said. According to him, the results of the technical study will serve as the basis for preparing the installation of the pelican crossing at the former Tendean footbridge site. He mentioned the study will be completed shortly. “In the near future, the Transportation Agency will complete the technical study as a basis for preparing the pelican crossing installation,” he stated. “So that the crossing facility built can provide security, safety, and comfort for pedestrians, motor vehicle users, and the community,” he added. Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung requested the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation to apply for a permit to build a temporary zebra cross at the Tendean footbridge location. The zebra cross is being prepared as a short-term solution. “So for the Tendean footbridge, there will be a short-term and long-term resolution. For the short term, I have asked the Transportation Agency to coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation to request a permit for whether it can be used as a zebra cross in the short term first,” Pramono said at DKI Jakarta City Hall on Friday (17/7). Pramono said building a new footbridge takes time. He stated that a zebra cross is needed so that pedestrian mobility remains served. “Because if a new footbridge has to be built, it takes time. But I have also ordered for a new footbridge to be built immediately,” he said.
