Tech advancements drive educational transformation: Minister
In a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, he said technology has enabled the democratization of knowledge, ensuring that access to information is no longer limited to a select few.
“Today, anyone can learn directly from professors at leading universities thanks to technology. Knowledge is now accessible to everyone,” he said.
The minister stressed that technology must be used in a structured and systematic manner. Without proper management, he warned, broader access to knowledge may not yield optimal improvements in learning quality.
He also highlighted the central role of teachers and lecturers in the education ecosystem, underscoring the need to strengthen their capacity to adapt to technological developments.
“Teachers and lecturers are at the forefront of advancing both human resources and technology. They will not be replaced by technology; instead, their roles have become even more vital, not only as educators but also as mentors with a strong understanding of technology,” he said.
Yuliarto further noted that technology is a double-edged sword. If not used properly, it can create dependency and weaken national capacity. In this context, strengthening fundamental knowledge remains essential.
He added that technology should be utilized as a tool to enhance human resource capacity, rather than merely for convenience. Education, he said, must remain focused on building students’ character, competence, and competitiveness.
The minister also highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration in advancing education transformation, involving the government, industry, and the wider community.
He affirmed that the ministry will continue to promote the inclusive and strategic use of technology while strengthening cross-sector partnerships to ensure high-quality and equitable education that produces globally competitive graduates.
