Jakarta — Several residents of Tebet, South Jakarta have expressed support for the normalisation of Kali Ciliwung following six rental units that collapsed on Friday, 6 March.

“Residents in the area hope it will be normalised soon,” said Putut Puji, sub-district head of Tebet, when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

Putut stated that the location of the rental units that collapsed on Friday, 6 March is an area targeted for Kali Ciliwung normalisation. Therefore, residents are urged not to construct new buildings in the area to prevent further collapses.

“The ground conditions in the field are steep; we advise against further construction,” he said.

The sub-district office has conducted socialisation in the area regarding the planned land acquisition along the Ciliwung Canal banks to local residents.

According to him, this step is part of the government’s efforts to address flood potential and landslide risks in the area.

“We have conducted socialisation since 2023, continuing in 2024 and 2025,” said Putut.

Land acquisition will be carried out in stages after the Jakarta Provincial Government completes the acquisition of residents’ homes in the Rawajati area, Pancoran Sub-district.

“Data on the number of residents affected by the planned Ciliwung Canal normalisation in RW 10, Kebon Baru Village totals 396 plots. Meanwhile, for RW 11 and RW 14, further data collection is still pending,” he said.
