Tebet Project Site Where Child Died to Become Futsal Field

The location of the incident where a four-year-old boy fell into a hole at a construction site in Tebet, South Jakarta, will be turned into a futsal field for the local community, according to Tebet Subdistrict Head Putut Puji Linangkung. The development is being carried out through a corporate social responsibility programme and commenced on 25 June. A local resident, Iyus, confirmed the project had been underway for about a week, explaining that the community had requested a futsal field to provide a safe space for children and to help prevent street brawls. The initial phase involved cutting down trees and installing zinc fencing. The site was previously a vacant lot filled with large trees and frequently used by children as a play area. Iyus noted that residents generally welcomed the futsal field, believing it would offer a safer alternative to playing on the roadside and help reduce the sporadic group clashes that had caused unease in the neighbourhood. As of Monday afternoon, police tape was still visible at the location, but no construction activity was observed. The hole, approximately 30 centimetres in diameter, had been filled with soil. The four-year-old victim died on Sunday after being trapped in the hole for around four hours. He was evacuated alive but passed away en route to the hospital.
